ADULT ARTS WORKSHOPS
Cyanotype on Fabric

Cyanotype printing on fabric allows the artist to make photogram murals, unique clothing, etc. It’s an excellent introduction to photographic image making, easily done at home, as elaborate photographic darkroom equipment isn‘t required. A large mural photogram will be made as a group to learn the process but students will leave with information needed to do cyanotype printing at home.
Feng Shui for Home and Garden

Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway") is a set of principles and practices based on the belief that peoples' external surroundings affect their inner states and the outer aspects of their lives. This workshop will begin with an overview of the basics of Feng Shui followed by an in-depth presentation on the application of the principles and practices to Western households. Students will gain a basic understanding of how certain aspects of their surroundings can be adjusted and manipulated to create harmony in their homes and gardens.
Portrait Today

Students will investigate making the classical portrait, relevant to contemporary painting. Students will work on projects with photos as well as live models, learning to join tradition to modernity. All techniques are welcome, including oils, acrylics, collage. The workshop will include slide discussion, demonstrations and critiques.
Rug Braiding
Dates: Friday - Sunday, June 23 - 25

Students will construct braids of wool fabric, lace braids together and finish off a 2’ x 3’ rug. Discussions during the course will also cover how to make different shaped rugs, history of fabric colors, the arts of butting & plaiting, how to make a basket, natural dyeing of white fabric, how to plan a rug so it fits in a room, care and cleaning, anecdotes from Sagamore rugmakers and more.
Striving for Masterful Watercolors

For beginners to advanced. You will be taught step-by-step how to create a complicated watercolor and achieve the look you desire. Come with an idea or sketch of what you want to paint. Instructor will give individual assistance as to how to start and finish the painting.
Music of the Romantic Age

Four enjoyable sessions combining details of the lives of four great Romantic composers with actual performance of their music by pianist Alexander Tentser. Learn more about the lives and music of Schumann, Chopin, Liszt (the prototype for many of today’s musical superstars), and Schubert.

Plein Air Watercolor Painting
Dates: Monday - Friday, Aug. 21 - 25

Location: Silkscreen Studio
Students will explore the scenic Adirondack region through "plein air" watercolor painting trips. Participants will receive introductory studio instruction in basic watercolor techniques, geared to any level of ability, particularly in reference to landscape painting. There will also be a slide lecture on 19th century artists of the Adirondack region. Daily trips to local sites suitable to "plein air" painting will be scheduled, weather permitting. Hiking trips to more remote areas can be arranged according to the abilities and interests of participants. In case of inclement weather, instruction will take place in the studio.

For intermediate to advanced artists currently working in any medium who are interested in the ongoing search to define their own voice. Using acrylic paint and mediums, students will investigate methods using collage, fragmented narratives and layered imagery to abstract one’s existing subject matter and create a unique style and point of view.

REFUND POLICY The LPCA reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is insufficient. If a class is cancelled, all fees will be returned. If a student withdraws less than one week prior to the first class, no refund will be made. Fees cannot be pro-rated if a student is unable to attend all class sessions.
